20201016 Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

 Friday, 16 October

#Today I wanna write about Korean Drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo. I knew this drama from my elder sister. She told me that this drama base on a Chinese Novel and this novel also has been turned into a Chinese drama, Scarlet Heart. But the drama is banned from airing in China.

Because of that, I became curious about this Korean drama. Even though I was not yet watching the Chinese drama of this novel.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (Korean달의 연인 - 보보경심 려; Hanja달의戀人-步步驚心 麗; RRDar-ui yeon-in - Bobogyeongsim ryeo; MRTar-ŭi yŏnin - Popokyŏngsim ryŏ) is a South Korean television series based on the Chinese novel Bu Bu Jing Xin. It aired from August 29 to November 1, 2016, on SBS every Monday and Tuesday at 22:00 (KST) time slot for 20 episodes.

It performed well internationally and had over 1.1 billion views in China along with high ratings in Singapore and Malaysia. The drama has reportedly been sold for more than $400,000 per episode to the Chinese broadcasting station Youku, totaling over $8 million and thus became the most expensive K-drama ever sold. The record was beaten a few months later by Man To Man.

During a total solar eclipse, a 25-year-old 21st-century woman, Go Ha-jin (Lee Ji-Eun), is transported back in time to the Goryeo Dynasty. She wakes up in the year of 941 in the body of Hae Soo, among the many royal princes of the ruling Wang family during the reign of King Taejo. She initially falls in love with the gentle and warm-hearted 8th Prince Wang Wook (Kang Ha-neul), and later Wang So (Lee Joon-gi), the fearsome 4th Prince who hides his face behind a mask and is given the derogatory label of "wolf dog". As the story develops, Hae Soo finds herself unwittingly caught up in palace politics and the rivalry among the princes as they fight for the throne.

  • Lee Joon-gi as 4th Prince Wang So
Initially known as the cruel and aloof one among the princes, he is both feared and misunderstood by those around him. He begins to change because of Hae Soo, who quickly realizes that his coldness was a front to hide his pain.
  • Lee Ji-Eun as Go Ha-jin / Hae Soo
A girl with a painful life who travels back in time. She is an optimistic girl and can't stand injustice. She becomes the first one to understand Wang So's pain and decides to help him. She cares deeply for her loved ones. She initially develops feelings for the 8th Prince, but later falls for the 4th Prince.
  • Kang Ha-neul as 8th Prince Wang Wook
He is a kind man who deeply cares for the people around him. His kind charms make Hae Soo fall for him.
