#Today was the first day of the badminton tournament, Toyota Thailand Open 2021.
2 days ago, Yonex Thailand Open 2021 was successfully held. These tournaments were substituted of Indonesia Open 2020 and China Open 2020 which canceled because of Coronavirus.
The Toyota Thailand Open is a badminton tournament that is taking place at the Impact Arena in Thailand from 19 to 24 January 2021. It has a total purse of $1,000,000.
The Toyota Thailand Open is the ninth tournament of the 2020 BWF World Tour and also part of the Thailand Open championships, which have been held since 1984. This tournament is organized by the Badminton Association of Thailand and sanctioned by the BWF. It is the second of three BWF tournaments to take place in Thailand in January 2021. Participation in both Thailand Opens is mandatory to qualify for the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals.
Four out of five world number ones have withdrawn from all three tournaments. The Chinese team has withdrawn from all three tournaments after failing to get permission to travel to Thailand; affected players include Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan (women's doubles), and Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong (mixed doubles). In addition, the Japanese team has withdrawn from the tournaments following the positive COVID-19 diagnosis of Kento Momota (men's singles). Following Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo's positive COVID-19 diagnosis, he and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon (men's doubles) withdrew from the tournaments.
This international tournament is held at the Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani, Thailand.
Below is the point distribution for each phase of the tournament based on the BWF points system for the BWF World Tour Super 1000 event.
The total prize money for this tournament is US$1,000,000. The distribution of prize money is in accordance with BWF regulations.
